Uranus in Aries

THE REBEL, AWAKENER

Watching the news, we're seeing the revolutionary (Uranus)  in the sign of I am (Aries). We're seeing people fighting for their personal rights. From Egypt to Wisconsin, people are "bringing Syn forward" to take up for the individual and the rights that mean personal freedom.

We're seeing people all over the world asking, "What about me?" They're stepping out and ready to rebel in order to win personal freedom.

Aries is the sign of self, of bravery, pioneering, adventuring. It's a Cardinal sign (initiates action), so it starts well, has a more difficult time following through. It's Fire -- again this is action and also identity. Aries is the sign of the warrior and the pioneer. Aries is often the leader of causes. A motivational organizer, ready to defend the rights of the individual.

Uranus is the revolutionary. "Everything she touches, changes... and she changes everything she touches..." Uranus is known as the Fool in Tarot and the Fool is not at all foolish. The Fool adventures, goes walk-about, lives on faith, steps out in bravery, in the certain knowledge that nothing ever ends, it only changes.

Ah... but we like form, us Earth people. And Uranus breaks forms. It doesn't ask us to think outside the box, it just breaks the box. Not maliciously, but so we do not get trapped inside the box.

Uranus belongs to Aquarius. The Handmaiden, Snotra, is related to the energy of this sign. Snotra reaches for the highest good and for universal freedom. Snotra wants us to excel, to exceed beyond previous goals. She creates Frith among the kinsmen. She does this by breaking down the boundaries and limitations. She does not like unjust judgement. She does not like limitations on identity. Always inventing, forward thinking, motivated by the need to test what's on the other side of the word, "don't". Uranus is the word, "go". Aries is the word, "begin".

In tarot, Aries is the Emperor and Uranus is the Fool. These two cards, paired, says: Set out on your journey with bravery and a firm foundation. When I see the Emperor, I think of the good side of the image, which is of motivation and self-control, stability, leadership, authority, and facing up to obligations.  But I also see the Tyrant who rules without thought for others.

When I see the Fool, someone may be moving forward without thought of the outcome; there is an innocence and the protection that may come with this. The person whose eyes are on the distance and doesn't see the danger underfoot often is living above the snake line and has protection around him. This is the spiritual connection -- the fellow is about to tumble off a cliff, but you get the sense, he'll land on his feet and be so much furthur down the road he's traveling. Things happen suddenly, both good and bad.  Often  the card means "going walkabout" in order to find Divine guidance. But it also can mean there is a need to be practical and not always trust things will turn out ahead of you.

Paired with the Emperor, I think this meaning is more likely. The Emperor rules with rigid boundaries. You have to pay the bills -- a check is not going to magically appear in the mail to take care of that.

The Fool (Uranus) has been paired with the Moon (Pisces) for a long time. Not only was he stepping out without planning, but he could barely see where he landed once he got there. There were ups and downs and he was often dreaming and seldom seeing things clearly.

Now, the Fool is paired with leadership and initiative. It would be wise to keep the better traits of the Emperor in mind and find footing on firm ground, keep the "other" in mind and don't be self serving. Rulers who limit freedom are finding rebellion in the kingdom.

On May 27, 2010 Uranus entered Aries and went retrograde later that year, July 5th, 2010. Uranus re-entered Pisces August 13, 2010, then stationed direct on December 5, 2010 and will once again enter Aries March 11, 2011 (and stays until May 15th, 2018).

WHAT THAT MEANS TO YOU
What this means to you depends on where Aries is in your chart and what aspect (relationship) transiting Uranus has with planets in your chart. Where you find Aries will be the house Uranus is invading.

The three planets that have the biggest punch are Pluto, Neptune and Uranus. Two of these three move into new signs this year and the other one, Pluto, has been crafting headlines since 2008.

You may be pleased to know that these planets, though they affect each of us, do their major accomplishments on a larger scale. They rearrange governments. Pluto addresses power and the use and misuse of it. Neptune addresses spirituality and rewrites religions in the hope of universal enlightenment (Neptune hates boundaries and dissolves them). Uranus revolutionizes ideas and breaks through to personal freedom.

We've seen Pluto bring death and resurrection to the business world (Capricorn).

When Neptune entered Aquarius in January 1998, many of us found our old static religion dissolving and many of us moved with the movement. Some resisted change and entered the abuse of drugs and alcohol instead. Some found poetry while others found pills. I became a mystic follower of the Goddess and let poetry bring me back from the brink of depression  while my best friend took on a second antidepressant medication and sleeping pills.  I have no idea if I chose my way and she chose hers -- or if we each simply followed our basic wiring. I remember a conscious decision not to take pills, and I remember coming out of the fog and into the clear and writing my medicine poems in lieu of drugs. So, I'm going to say that if one chooses, one can choose. But if we allow the choice to be made for us, we lose the ability to choose.

When these major planets touch angles and planets in your chart, they create lasting change. They are transformational. You can find out the action of these planets by noting the changes they've made as they've changed sign before.

Find Uranus in your chart.

In other news:

Jupiter  in Aries (since January 22) until June 4th, 2011 when it enters Taurus.
Saturn is still in Libra (October 29, 1909 to April 7, 2010 and then July 21, 2010 to October 5, 2012)
Neptune enters Pisces April 4, 20ll.
Pluto is and will be in Capricorn for a very long time. ( January 25, 2008 -- June 14, 2008 and then to stay in Capricorn from November 26, 2008 until January 21, 2024). (think: Revolutionary War -- the last time this planet was in this sign).

URANUS IN YOUR CHART
Uranus is going to move slowly through the sign of Aries. It's going to take abut seven years for the planet to move thrugh this sign. This is going to affect you in one way or another. Life is not random. Your story has an outline. And you can read it. It doesn't take an astrologer. It just takes paying attention and looking at it for a moment or two.

One thing you need is a chart. You can go here and get one: http://www.astro.com/horoscopes
Click on CHART DRAWING, ASCENDANT in the lower right corner. Then go to ASTROCLICK PORTRAIT. This allows you to click on a sign or a planet and know the name of the sign or the planet.

Once you've figured out which sign is Aries, note the house number. Write this down. This is the house Uranus will be visiting in your chart. Uranus will conjunct any planet in this house. Across from this house will be the sign LIBRA. Half way between ARIES and LIBRA will be CANCER and across from this will be CAPRICORN. Anything here will be square to Uranus.

Now you've learned 4 signs and you've learned 4 aspects.

Aries and Libra are opposite each other -- planets in opposite signs are in opposition. Oppositions bring awareness, usually involving other people. Aries is I AM and Libra is WE ARE.

Square to Aries and Libra are Cancer and Capricorn.

When Uranus, the rebel with a cause, enters Libra, Uranus will be conjunct any planet in Aries, will be opposite any planet in Libra and will be square any planet in either Cancer or Capricorn.

These aspects should be within one degree. If your moon is at 2 degrees Cancer, then your moon will be squared by Uranus once this transiting planet reaches 2 degrees Cancer -- or 1 degree or 3 degrees Cancer.

In seven years, Uranus will travel through thirty degrees of this sign. It will sometimes go back and forth in the sign as it turns retrograde (it actually only appears to go backward) and backs up several degrees and then stations direct and goes forward again. For some folks, these times are especially meaninful -- if their natal planets are strummed while this retrograde and direct action is taking place. It means that a planet in the natal chart may be touched on three times in an aspect with Uranus.

To recap: Uranus enters Aries. And will be conjunct any planets in Aries in the natal chart.
Uranus will be in opposition to any planets in Libra
Uranus will square any planets in Cancer or in Capricorn.

WHAT THIS MEANS:
When two planets are conjunct, they team up -- blend their energy. If the planets get along, like Venus and the Moon, and the signs get along, like two that are in the same element or two that are friendly elements, then it can be a good thing. If they are planets that don't blend well -- like Mars and the Moon -- or Saturn and Uranus -- there can be some turbulence before they learn to get along.

Conjunct can be good or not, depending.

When two planets are in opposition, there is also some turbulence because they see the same thing from two different perspectives. This bring awareness and usually it involves another person. Aries/Libra is implied in an opposition even if the opposition is between planets in two other signs. Such as Cancer and Capricorn. These two signs are also in opposition. Or really, the planets in these signs are in opposition.

Square is the most difficult aspect. This is like a roadblock. It's also like a doorway, when it is used right. Squares will show that action is taking place involving the two planets. There will be a negative application of the energies of the planets unless you know in advance this is what is going to happen and take steps to alleviate the problem before it arrives.

Every time you use the energy of a square in a positive way, you reinforce the ability (in you) to use this energy to help yourself. Every time you go according to programming and let the square throw you, you reinforce the negative impact of the energy and will find it harder to remedy the problem the next time.

There are several other aspects. One more I use is the inconjunct. Two planets that are 150 degrees -- or five signs apart -- are inconjunct. This means the two planets do not understand each other. If they were 180 degrees apart, like two in opposition, you would become aware by seeing some of the traits in another person who helps you see this. But with an inconjunct, you can not find out what is wrong -- and so there is tension.

I'm going to tell you two more aspects. The sextile is an aspect between two planets that are two signs or 60 degrees apart. A sextile can be used if you learn how to use it. It brings good fortune only if you apply the energy to make it happen.

A trine is also positive (usually). It involves two planets that are of the same element (usually) and are four signs (120 degrees) apart. A trine is like a windfall -- it's good fortune that just happens without you making it happen. For this reason, it can be taken for granted and can become a problem because an individual gets lazy or gets the big head over his good fortune (and thinks he deserves it while others don't).

Square, opposition and inconconjunct are tense aspects considered hard or difficult
Trine and sextile are considered easy and beneficial
Conjunct can be either hard or easy, depending on which planets and signs are involved.

NOW -- look for ARIES, LIBRA, CANCER and CAPRICORN in your chart. Look at the planets that are in these signs. Write the aspect Uranus makes with these planets -- at some time during the 7 year stay in Aries.

I'll write a brief line or two about how Uranus might express itself with your sun or moon or one of the planets in your natal chart. These will only be suggestions and very general, but will be a place to start.

I know this all seems like a lot of work -- but this planet will stay in this sign for 7 years. Also, what you are doing now applies to transits of other planets, too. If you take the time to look at this, you'll become your own storyfinder in a short time.

KNOWING relieves fear and stress and helps you understand yourself and others.

URANUS IN YOUR CHART – STORYFINDING

Uranus/Sun: Re-inventing yourself -- possibly letting go of anything that threatens your freedom of expression. Will it be hard or will it be easy? Will it involve others or will the tension that acts as a catalyst for change come from within?

Uranus/Moon: re-forming old habits and breaking away from the past. Possibly changing home. Changing moods make you feel unstable if the aspect is a difficult one. You must bring the moon moods into the open or they explode or implode, erupt and disrupt. Significant others are in the changing rays of the Uranus/Moon (what's happening with Venus and Mars?) The past and the future fight when the aspect is difficult. May change partners, may move house -- try to find stability and don't change just because you are restless -- remember the moon is a bit deceptive and goes through phases.

Uranus/Mercury: changing your mind, unique thoughts, inventive ways, sudden communications, forcefully speaking your mind. If the aspect is a difficult one, familiar surroundings may feel confining.

Uranus/Venus: Big changes to your values -- including self-worth and how worth it you think others are. If Venus and the Moon are affected, hold on to your lover -- either you (or if projected,) the other may be dissatisfied with the partnership or relationship.

Uranus/Mars: this can be volatile -- being careful is necessary. And mind your temper (also true of the moon).

Look at the house involved, by noting the sign on the cusp. The issues of this house will be where the action takes place.

Uranus is erratic and it is difficult to know exactly how the energy will react in any transit with Uranus. What I've mentioned above is a very general, broad outline.
